Barnes and Nobles Book Signing in Green Oak Township in Michigan

Hello Everyone

I am going to be at the Barnes and Nobles Booksellers in Green Oak Township near Brighton Michigan to participate in their Summer Reading Kickoff Party. I will be discussing and signing all the books in my Crypto-Capers Series:

Local author Renee Hand will be with us to help kick off our Summer Reading Program. Renee will be hosting Cryptograms and Mysteries for 4th through 6th graders. New Book Review for The Chest of Mystery

For those of you who don't know, The Chest of Mystery is book 4 in my Crypto-Capers Series. In this series, in order for the reader to solve the case, they must solve cryptograms and puzzles. Each of the puzzles and word scrambles are in the book. This is a mystery series that is interactive for the reader. Here is the summary of the book. Below is also a new review for it. THE ASSIGNMENT:

In the conclusion of the search for the Golden Monkey, the Crypto-Capers, Granny, Max, Mia and Morris, find more than what they bargained for. From the very beginning, their resolve will be tested. Having found two of the pieces to open the treasure room in book 3, they soon come to realize they only have half of the puzzle solved. Their search for the other two pieces, will become more exigent. The Panther is hot on their trail, sabotaging them at every turn, like they had done to him in Chichen Itza. Feeling like he is close to finding the Golden Monkey, the Panther sends every accomplice he knows to thwart the detective team from finding the pieces, while at the same time, using their talents and knowledge for his own gain.

In The Chest of Mystery the team will travel across the globe to Pisa, Italy where they will have to fight for their freedom, or be captured by the enemy. They must be one step ahead, but can it be done when the man who holds all the answers disappears without a trace? The Crypto-Capers list of friends begins to dwindle until they realize the answers are right in front of them, all they have to do is look, and believe. Their fate drops in the hands of one boy, Emmanuel Watson, whose history is tied to the chest, but can he find the strength to do what he must, especially when the world is against him? Her upper elementary series known as The Crypto-Capers Series, is an interactive series where the reader is apart of the story solving the case. Mrs. Hands lower elementary series known as, The Adventures of Joe-Joe Nut and Biscuit Bill, is a great combination of fun loving animal detectives who solve their case by following animal tracks and learning about clues. A Cute Read-Aloud Book That Will Delight Young Children

Cat the Cat, Who is THAT? Is a simply written story that teaches friendship to children up to 5 years of age. The energetic Cat the Cat introduces readers to her friends, like Mouse the Mouse, Duck the Duck, Fish the Fish and of course, to someone new. This stranger is quite different than Cat the Cats other friends, but after thinking about it for some time, not sure what to do, Cat the Cat decides to accept the uniqueness of this stranger and wants to become his friend. She instantly welcomes the stranger into her life and the lives of her friends. Cat the Cat shows children how easy it is to make new friends and to accept people who are different than they are.

The artwork guides the reader through the story as they watch Cat the Cat meet all her friends. Very young readers will love the colorful pages and simple text making them smile along with the characters. A Picture Book That Encourages Children to Believe In Themselves

Moonbeam Dreams is a keenly rhymed, fantastical romp through a fantasyland where anything can happen. This fantasyland can only be found in our dreams. Ms. Browning does a wonderful job telling a story that goes beyond the everyday. In our dreams, we learn, children can accomplish things that they wouldn’t be able to do normally, become anything they desire without restriction. From a flying fairy or a princess, to becoming friends with the animals, even conversing with them and visiting their world on great adventures. Children learn they can even be a hero and save the world, or just simply make a difference.

The rhyming story begins with characters talking to the reader about the places they could visit while they are asleep, and what they will see. Some descriptors are odd and unique, but the story runs smoothly, enticing the reader to want to learn more about what they will see and to explore more about the people or animals they will encounter. This fantasy world reminds this reviewer of Alice in Wonderland. In that story, the objects and places are so odd and weird and yet make one wonder how it will end as well as creating a curiosity about actually being a part of that fantastical world. Ms. Browning accomplishes that same goal. Her book is truly different, and yet has a great moral to it.

Though Moonbeam Dreams is more of a bedtime story for young children, it also encourages children to believe in themselves and their abilities. When people believe in themselves, anything can happen—no dream, real or fantastical, is ever impossible.
Young children will also love the brightly colored drawings that illuminate the pages. The rhyming verse will make them smile with delight. The weird and yet wonderful characters, for the youngest of children, will make for great conversation. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable romp.
